The work includes re-design and characterization of optical systems for hyper-spectral imaging. Hyperspectral imaging allows the collection of spectral (wavelength) information from across the electromagnetic spectrum while still retaining the spatial information (image). The characterization of such a system allows to the matching of the wavelength and spatial information of a scene. This project will make a miniaturized customizable multispectral imaging system with processing software. It will primarily use off-the-shelf components (camera, filters, micro lenses, illumination) to realize the system. The acquisition system will versatile and different versions will be rendered specific to extract exactly the information relevant for the application.
To understand the redesign and miniaturize the set-up and then build it. The challenge here will be to keep simplicity whilst achieving a compact camera system. After this you will characterize the camera by a series of spectral and imaging tests. The data that the camera outputs is in the form of a large image composed of small sub-images. Your challenge will turn this date into the hyperspectral information needed. This will allow extraction of only the relevant information needed for the application. The candidate will present their results within the project. The position will last between 4-6 months.
You have a background in optics and micro/nano technology. You are interested in understanding as well as designing, and are a good team player.
