Internship in Ultra-low Power Cryptography for IOT Security
To start as soon as possible and for a duration of six months.
Ultra-low power systems (typically for applications in the Internet-of-things and wearables) embed increasing amounts of sensitive data calling for robust encryption methods. Designing robust and low-power security systems involve the design of many sub-blocks: encryption (e.g. AES, 3DES), secret key generation, cryptographically secure pseudo random number generators (CSPRNG), etc. While pure algorithmic attacks are generally not possible with state-of-art encryption algorithms, side-channel attacks (e.g. differential power attacks, DPA) might succeed in retrieving sensitive information from seemingly secure devices. Therefore, innovative countermeasure are also added to next generations of IoT devices.
- Design and simulate security components (e.g. AES, CSPRNG)
- Evaluate these blocks against state-of-art recommendations (FIPS, NIST)
- Evaluate the sensitivity of these blocks to power attacks through simulation, while extracting statistical characteristics from power traces
- Design countermeasures for the above blocks and evaluate their benefit.
- Student in Microelectronics
- Interest in cryptography and cryptanalysis
- Understanding of digital integrated circuit design and electronic design in general.
