Machines,
precision instruments, and other
equipment with movable parts
that have to travel in a precise
straight or circular line with a minimum
of backlash and friction. These
prefabricated components are supplied
ready for use and relieve designers of
the need to keep “reinventing the
wheel”.
GIROUD Mécanique
de Précision SA
Established in 1968, Giroud Mécanique
de Précision SA in Le Locle,
Switzerland, designs, develops, and
makes high-precision mechanical
components, sliding stages that run on
dovetails or on linear antifriction
bearings, and various other products.
Separate
elements…
Standard dovetail-type sliding-stage
modules have a fixed baseplate on which
a moving sledge travels, controlled by a
micrometer gauge and vernier scale that
measure in 10µm units. Lateral backlash
is controlled by a gib strip that
transmits the pressure of setscrews to
the guide. The two main components,
whose surfaces are all precision-ground,
are made of GG25 cast iron.
The modules are available in seven sizes:
30, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, and 200; each
number refers to the stage width in
millimetres. Depending on type, travel
of the standard version varies from 10mm
to 400mm. Despite being extremely
compact in height, these elements are
stiff and very precise.

…
or combined systems
Two sliding tables above each
other form a complete XY
cross-slide that can be fitted
either to a fixed base, or to a
rotary baseplate with a
protractor scale in 1°
divisions along its
circumference. Extra-thin
cross-slides are also available,
with heights from 26mm to 36mm,
according to type.
.
Options
The basic equipment is supplied
without holes for fixings.
However, a special feature of
Giroud production is its ability
to supply any of its stages
finished to customers’ special
requirements.
Optionally, slide rails can be
supplied with short verniers,
handwheels, angular gears,
blocking systems, central
lubrication, and/or with bellows
to protect the slide rail, but
in that case the size of the
bellows reduces the useful
length of travel.

Another
possibility, for example, is to combine
the slide rails to form an XYZ triaxial
system. Other types can be made to
customers’ specifications, such as
slide rails with built-in counters,
sledges coupled to move in opposite
directions, etc.

CN-MST
roller bearing slide
These slide tables are specially
designed for applications that
require incremental movement in
the µm range, notably for
straight-line travel under
digital control, by prestressed
linear antifriction bearings
instead of conventional slide
surfaces.
The drive is controlled by a
high-precision micrometer gauge
of 1mm thread pitch with a
doubly prestressed nut that
controls axial backlash. It
eliminates backlash in the µm
range in any geometrical
direction and is thus is
suitable for high-precision
applications. In their basic
configuration, these elements
are supplied with protective
bellows for the slide rails at
the start and end of travel.
These slide rails are 102mm wide
and have an overall height of
only 32mm; they are available
for 25mm to 200mm travel. |

Pneumatic
insertion press
Giroud pneumatic insertion press
are specially designed for the
watchmaking industry. To ensure
a gentle and deformation-free
insertion of even the most
fragile components, you can
associate the press with a
special designed control unit.
Two types are available, each of
which can be supplied with three
different baseplates.
General
note: All Giroud
products can be adapted to
specific requirements or made to
order.
